Swansons Concrete Not Impacted by SOLE Water Restriction.

Swansons concrete and mine operation is not on the SCRD water source, does not impact District reserves.
Cement Truck Drivers for Swansons Concrete company are understandably receiving quizzical looks from local citizens and businesses as they complete their scheduled deliveries, due to the confusion and chaos that has accompanied the State of Local Emergency (SOLE) notice from the SCRD. With the announcement on Monday, October 17th, that as of 11:59 am, Tuesday October 18, all non-essential commercial businesses are now banned from using water from the Chapman water supply, including local concrete companies, concerned citizens can be forgiven for not knowing that Swansons Concrete is not on the Chapman water supply.
In fact, Swanson mine does not use any SCRD water sources in its operations, allowing the company to continue working without any additional impact or risk to municipal and district water sources. “We are fortunate that we do not use District water in the operation of our concrete company, but our hearts certainly go out to those companies who are now forced to suspend operations due to the water situation” said Hiwus (Chief) Warren Paull of the shíshálh Nation; “the forecast of rain this weekend will hopefully spell relief for all concerned”.
The shíshálh Nation purchased Swansons Ready Mix Concrete company back in 2019 through its economic development company, Tsain-ko Development Corporation. The mine and concrete operations continue uninterrupted.
Tsain-ko Development Corporation (TKDC) is the parent company of the shíshálh Nation’s economic development arm and is comprised of a number of corporations and limited partnerships involved in carrying out its four primary economic functions: Natural Resources, Land Development/Commercial Properties, Industrial, Capacity Building and Advisory Services.
